The Use and Abuse of Leisure

Leisure is perhaps as important as work. When we work continuously for several hours we feel very tired and, unless we have some break, we cannot carry on and our health may be injured. After a little relaxation we can work more energetically and more efficiently. Those who are engaged in manual work should, in leisure, do the kind of work which exercises and entertains the mind. Those who do mental or brain work like students, teachers or writers should spend their leisure time in physical and athletic activities. Pursuits different from our regular business provide adequate relaxation. We should avoid unhealthy amusement. We should be occupied with something constructive in our leisure hours.
